A singular mutation that occurred in 1820 in an sweet orange grove from a monastery in Brazil led to the "navel orange". The mutation caused the base of the fruit to develop a second orange, small and stunted, which gives the appearance of a navel. From this variey are derived others such as "Navelina" hybrid easy peeling bark and "Navelate" or late navel.

This variety is traditionally grown in our production area.

Its harvest season is from December until the end of March.
